Welcome to Connect! Unite! Act!
A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward. |
If you are new to the site or have been lurking, we invite you to join in the friendly banter here. Don’t be shy, you have something to say. Say anything, it will be well received. Join any of our communities at Daily Kos, just for camaraderie!
Do you despise republicans?
I have to admit that I have been feeling pretty smug lately. You see, Mrs. Dragon and I voted back on October 18 while she was home for fall break. I know that in Indiana my Hillary vote won’t be worth much, but I am hopeful that my votes for governor, senator, congresscritter, and other down ballot candidates did some good.
Naturally, I voted for Democrats in every race but one. For state representative I voted for the independent. Not only was there no Democrat running, but the independent candidate is president of my wife’s local union, my former colleague, and a true progressive. I did refuse to vote in two races because I know the Democrats in both, and I can’t in good conscience vote for them. One is incompetent and one is vindictive. But I didn’t even consider voting for the Republican.
I did not and will not vote for anyone who has an R by their name in any race at any level until the GOP mends its ways. Anyone willing to call themselves a Republican these days has no place in governing. Period. I have voted for Republicans in the past for offices as high as governor. But that was back in 1970. The Republican Party was still sane back then.
But not any more. The polarization of America is nearly complete, but the blame for that clearly falls on only one party. I consider the GOP to be a treasonous, seditious organization that needs to be fought at every turn. I despise them. Sometimes I wonder if that’s fair. But the KKK’s endorsement of Trump yesterday does much to assuage any doubts. I say it again, I despise Republicans. Every. one. of. them.
Well, enough frivolity. I am very glad that I have voted. I hope you will if you haven’t already. So how about you? Do you despise Republicans?
As always, this is an Open Thread!
LET'S BUILD IN-REAL-LIFE COMMUNITIES!
