Welcome to Connect! Unite! Act!
A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward. |
If you are new to the site or have been lurking, we invite you to join in the friendly banter here. Don’t be shy, you have something to say. Say anything, it will be well received. Join any of our communities at Daily Kos, just for camaraderie!
do you know what week it is?
Of course you do. It’s Thanksgiving Week. But that’s not all. As with every week of every year, there are actually a number of “Weeks” going on. Thanks to the National Days Calendar, one can easily access a list of the celebrations on various days, weeks, and months. I find it very helpful when I have nothing to write about. Like now.
So anyway, here is a list of this week’s Weeks:
International Bible Week, November 20-27
International Fraud Awareness Week, November 20-26
National Family Week, November 20-26
National Game and Puzzle Week, November 20-26
Better Conversation Week, November 21-27
Church/State Separation Week, November 21-25
As an atheist, I really like the juxtaposition of Bible Week with Fraud Awareness Week, not to mention Church/State Separation Week. I also feel that Family Week, Game and Puzzle Week, and Better Conversation Week do seem appropriate for Thanksgiving. I suspect Better Conversation Week will be sorely tested as families eat turkey and scream at one another over He Who Shall Not Be Named. Internationally, I think almost everyone is already aware of The Biggest Fraud Ever.
Whatever. As for games and puzzles, I can report that my nephew finished 8th at the World Puzzle Championships back in late October and the US team came in third. He also ranked 31st in the world in Sudoku. Just braggin’.
Despite the turn of recent events, I still have many blessings to be thankful for this week, so I guess I’ll go ahead and observe Thanksgiving. I am most thankful for Mrs. D and my two sons. They are my anchor and my compass.
So how about you? Is there a particular week you look forward to? Is there one of this week’s Weeks that you really look forward to celebrating? Do you know what week it is?
As always, this is Open Thread Time!
LET'S BUILD IN-REAL-LIFE COMMUNITIES!
Our team is here to provide support and guidance to new and existing volunteer leaders of each regional and state group, helping them with recruiting, organizing and executing social and action events. We invite you to join in this effort to build our community. There are many ways to pitch in. If there isn't a group to join near you, please start one.
The orange pinpoints are the location of each organized group of Daily Kos readers. If you'd like to join a group, click on a point and a box will pop up showing contact links. If you'd like to start a group, contact navajo for instructions.

Our next one will be on November 26th, followed by one on December 17th. We meet at the Common Grounds Coffee House, 44th and Vallejo, in Denver from 9:00 AM to noonish at the table by the piano. Come meet fellow Daily Kos readers and other like-minded folk, to enjoy wake-up coffee to start your weekend off and discuss how we take back America.
